Job Description
Position Title: NGSL English Subject Mentor
Location: Nongduang Secondary School, Dongnasok Tai Village, Sikhottabong District, Vientiane, Laos
Reports to: NGSL Program Manager and School Director
Employment Type: Full-time
Contract Duration: One year (renewable based on performance)
1. Position Overview
The English Subject Mentor supports the development of English language teaching and learning across the school. He/she guides teachers in instructional practices, curriculum implementation, and professional growth to improve English education quality.
2. Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Mentor and coach English teachers to improve lesson planning and classroom instruction.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to English teachers.
- Assist in delivering English teaching as assigned.
- Demonstrate and model effective teaching strategies.
- Assist in designing teaching materials aligned with the national curriculum.
Professional Development
- Organize and lead teacher workshops and meetings.
- Support teachers in applying student-centered teaching approaches.
- Encourage reflective practice and ongoing learning.
- Participating in methodology and other relevant trainings provided by the FFF and NGS Laos staff.
- Participating in leadership training led by Mr. Benedick Ashmore-Short, a distinguished educationalist with more than 25 years of experience in the education sector and the winner of the UK Pearson Headteacher of the Year 2014 award.
Curriculum and Assessment
- Support teachers in developing and using effective assessment tools.
- Monitor student performance and advise improvement strategies.
- Coordinate with school leadership to ensure curriculum quality.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work with NGSL project staff, teachers, related departments, and education offices.
- Share best practices and promote collaboration.
- Maintain mentoring reports and documentation.
3. Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, TESOL, or related field.
- Fresh graduate or having minimum 1-2 years of teaching English at secondary level.
- Knowledge of modern teaching methods and classroom management.
- Fluent in English and Lao.
Desirable:
- Experience as a teacher trainer or mentor.
- Familiar with Lao MoES curriculum.
- TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA certification preferred.

5. Working Conditions
- Based at Nongduang Secondary School, Dongnasok Tai Village, Sikhottabong District, Vientiane, Laos.
- Working hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
- Occasional after-hours training may be required.
