About Company:

Burapha Agroforestry Co., Ltd is a Swedish/Lao plantation and wood products company with its own plywood mill, sawmill, and plantations. Established in Lao PDR in 1994 with the goal of developing a timber plantation asset in Laos large enough to serve as the primary wood supplier for a major industrial operation. Burapha currently operates a sawmill/furniture factory as well as a plywood mill that began production in 2021. 

This role will be based at Burapha Plywood Mill Factory, Hinheup District. The roster works as of 48 hours per week.

Job Overview

Provide operational health, safety and environment support for the plywood mill, aligned with Burapha Agro-Forestry’s values. Implement and maintain safety procedures and framework, considering best practice and operational needs, to ensure a safe workplace. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and develop safety processes for the plywood mill 
• Prepare regular and ad-hoc safety reports as required
• Assist in the development and implementation of a safety monitoring process and system where all incidents are reported 
• Act as the safety culture champion on site, lead by example and coach/support production leaders 
• Conduct high level safety and environmental hazard/risk assessment and analysis for the plywood mill
• Conduct water, dust and other environmental sampling in accordance with schedule 
• Ensure compliance with national and international safety laws, regulations, and standards
• Instill understanding and compliance with the Environmental, Social and Safety Management System (ESSMS) 
• Assist with incident investigations and ensure all corrective actions closed out in a timely fashion 
• Conduct safety audits/walks 
• Review safety inductions and safety training and update and improve as required for ongoing refresher training 
• Conduct safety inductions for new employees, visitors, and contractors on site

Qualifications / Experience:

• Tertiary qualification in relevant field and Current driver’s license 
• Previous experience (3-5yrs) as a safety officer in a heavy industrial environment, ideally including experience in forestry or manufacturing
• Proven ability with best practice safety standards, reporting and systems 
• Good working knowledge of international safety standards 
• Experience in incident investigations and ensuring corrective actions are completed  
• Experience in delivering safety-based training and inductions 
• Some experience in environmental monitoring and standards a bonus
• Demonstrated balance between theoretical safety knowledge and focus with time spent in the field to deliver practical solutions to operational needs
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in Lao and English language
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills to work with people at all levels of the organisation
• High levels of energy, drive, and motivation to achieve excellent outcomes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Good emotional intelligence and cultural awareness to work in a multicultural environment.
