This is an exciting time to join PanAust and our subsidiary company, Phu Bia Mining in Laos. Our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation in Laos are both delivering strong production and cost performances and are targeted to reach peak production over the next few years. In addition, the PanAust Group is progressing well in its Stage 1 Feasibility Study of the newly acquired Frieda River Copper Project in PNG

Site-based employees work a roster of 20 days on, 8 days off or 14 days on, 7 days off for shift work, while Vientiane – based employees work 5 days per week with 2 days off.
Reporting to the Purchasing Supervisor, the Senior Purchasing Officer is responsible for overseeing and executing purchasing activities within an assigned category of goods and services to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement that supports Phu Bia Mining’s (PBM) operational needs. The role provides a key link between end users, suppliers, logistics, and the strategic sourcing team, ensuring purchase requisitions are converted to purchase orders efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage purchasing activities for the assigned category, ensuring ethical business practices in line with The PanAust Way, PanAust Group Procurement Standard and other related PBM policies and procedures.
- Develop a strong understanding of the goods and services required for the assigned category and maintain updated knowledge of suppliers.
- Manage day-to-day purchasing activities, ensuring purchase requisitions (PRs) are converted to purchase orders (POs) within agreed timelines.
- Maintain and update Purchasing Information Records (PIRs) and liaise with the Cataloguing team to create PIRs for new stock items (ANSI process).
- Identify suitable suppliers for Requests for Quotation (RFQ), issue and receive RFQs, evaluate proposals, and recommend the best value options.
- Analyse supplier proposals to ensure commercial competitiveness and compliance with PBM standards.
- Ensure timely receipt of supplier PO confirmations and drive improvements in the confirmation process.
- Provide inputs and ideas to enhance purchasing efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Purchasing Supervisor or Sourcing Superintendent.
- Provide guidance, support, and oversight to purchasing officers to ensure consistent application of processes and standards.
- Contribute to building capability and knowledge within the purchasing team through coaching and mentoring
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Supply Chain or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in purchasing, preferably in a mining, resources, or industrial environment.
- Strong problem-solving ability, customer focus, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills in Lao and English
- Preference will be given to candidates with proficiency in Chinese (spoken and written)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; SAP experience is an advantage.
- Strong organisational skills, proactive mindset, and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
