People and Culture Manager

 

 

Duty station: Head Office, Vientiane Capital

Contract Type: National employment 

Contract Duration: Permanent 


About Company:

Burapha Agroforestry is a plantation and wood products company with established eucalyptus plantations and plywood mill in Laos. Established in 1994, the company has a goal of developing a timber plantation asset in Laos large enough to serve as the primary wood supplier for a major industrial operation. 

 

This role will be based at Burapha Head Office, Vientiane Capital. The working days is from Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).

 

Job Overview

To create HR strategy, policies and activities to support business critical activities and promote employee engagement and align to Lao labor law and investor requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and annual action plan aligned with the overall business plan and strategy, particularly in relation to employee attraction, retention and engagement
  • Manage the HR team to provide support including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, remuneration and payroll; and training and development 
  • Act as the escalation point for more complex HR issues and provide advice to senior leaders as required
  • Develop and review HR policies, standards and procedures
  • Provide training to leaders and employees in HR standards
  • Manage annual performance and salary review cycle to link pay with performance and benchmarks remuneration to the market  
  • Prepare monthly HR reports and other ad-hoc reports required for audit/investment purposes
  • Ensure legal compliance on all HR decisions and processes

Other tasks as directed by the supervisor

 

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Degree level qualification in administration or similar, with post-graduate studies in HR highly regarded
  • Current car drivers license 
  • Proven experience as an HR Manager in a medium sized organization, ideally with experience in manufacturing, forestry or similar heavy industry
  • Excellent understanding of Lao labor law and its application 
  • Broad generalist experience across most or all areas of HR, ideally including experience managing payroll
  • Strong leadership skills to lead a professional HR team
  • Previous experience working in a start up or maturing company still establishing major processes
  • Proven experience and ability to develop new HR standards and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Lao and English languages
  • Confident decision maker able to manage the views of multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Good emotional intelligence and cultural awareness to work in a multicultural environment 
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking and leadership with a hands-on approach to develop the team’s
  • capability across operational areas 
  • Energetic and decisive
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Willingness to travel frequently to sites as required
