PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer in Laos, with pre-development and exploration assets in Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Company is focused on a sustainable business model associated with the production and sale of copper and gold, delivery of production goals and growth.

 

In Laos, PanAust owns a 90 per cent interest in the Lao-registered company, Phu Bia Mining. The Government of Laos owns the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates PanAust Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation.

We offer many different career opportunities at our mine and exploration sites and in our Vientiane office; and as an employer who values diversity, we encourage women to apply for all available positions.  Our modern mine camps provide great Lao, Asian and Western food, sport and recreational facilities and housekeeping services. Site-based employees work a roster of 20 days on, 8 days off or 14 days on, 7 days off for shift work, while Vientiane – based employees work 5 days per week with 2 days off.

Reporting to the Mine Geology Superintendent, the key objective of the Project Geologist is to collect and manage all field geological data and integrate with drilling data to maintain representative geological and geotechnical structural models.  To provide data that is critical to ensure grade control modelling and ore perimeters are the best possible representative of the mineralization and maximizing the value of the orebody.


Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Conduct high wall and floor geological mapping (structures, lithology, alteration, mineralization).
  • Use drone imagery and Leapfrog software for 3D geological modelling.
  • Integrate drilling and mapping data to update models (lithology, structure, weathering, etc.).
  • Ensure accurate data collection, digitization, and database updates.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and geological presentations.
  • Identify and design new drill targets for resource expansion.
  • Support grade control and IRD drill program planning.
  • Perform QA/QC checks on drilling activities and data validation.
  • Collaborate with Geotechnical and other departments on geological inputs.
  • Mentor and train Mine Geologists and Geology Technicians.
  • Ensure work follows PBM’s safety standards and procedures.
  • Provide geological guidance to support mining business plan goals.

 

To be successful in this role, you will require:

 

  • Higher Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in mine geology is preferred, but fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Fluent in Lao with good English communication skills.
  • Skilled in collecting and interpreting structural, lithological, and alteration data.
  • Familiarity with drilling QAQC practices and data validation processes.
  • Capable of integrating mapping and drilling data into 3D geological models
  • Able to generate high-quality reports and presentations on geological interpretations.
  • Proficient in geological modelling software, especially Leapfrog.
  • Strong time management, initiative, and willingness to lead training and development for junior geologists and technicians.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
