PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer in Laos, with pre-development and exploration assets in Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Company is focused on a sustainable business model associated with the production and sale of copper and gold, delivery of production goals and growth.
In Laos, PanAust owns a 90 per cent interest in the Lao-registered company, Phu Bia Mining. The Government of Laos owns the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates PanAust Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation.

Our modern mine camps provide great Lao, Asian and Western food, sport and recreational facilities and housekeeping services. Site-based employees work a roster of 20 days on, 8 days off or 14 days on, 7 days off for shift work, while Vientiane – based employees work 5 days per week with 2 days off.
Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the Mine Geologist is responsible for the integration of all geological functions at Ban Houayxai into the safe and efficient extraction of the ore body. Key aspects of the role are all focused on accurately defining the distribution of mineralization within the current extent of the ore body and looking for extensions to these. To maximize ore recovery and minimize ore loss and dilution to ensure ore deliverables are aligned to the short-term forecasts and long-term objectives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensure all PBM Systems, Procedures and Standards in respective work area are complied with.
- Design and plan daily grade control and IRD drilling programs.
- Conduct chip/core logging and monitor sample quality (QA/QC).
- Analyze and interpret drilling data to update geological models.
- Monitor ore loss and dilution, and support ore mark-up before blasting.
- Assist with BMM plan setup, detection, and ore translation using BMT.
- Collaborate with Metallurgy team to manage sampling and dispatch.
- Prepare and manage weekly grade control and ore number plans.
- Perform regular high wall and floor mapping; support geological modelling.
- Update lithology, structural, and weathering models using Leapfrog.
- Identify opportunities to improve resource recovery and reduce waste drilling.
- Maintain close coordination with Mine Operations, Planning, Lab, and Processing.
- Train and mentor Lao Geology team members.
- Generate high-quality technical reports and communicate geological risks.
- Ensure compliance with PBM systems, procedures, and safety standards.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Higher Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field.
- 1 - 3 years of experience in mine geology is preferred, but fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
- Fluent in Lao with good English communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Surpac, MapInfo, Micromine, or other geological software is an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
