About Company:
Burapha Agroforestry is a plantation and wood products company with established eucalyptus plantations and plywood mill in Laos. Established in 1994, the company has a goal of developing a timber plantation asset in Laos large enough to serve as the primary wood supplier for a major industrial operation.
This role will be based at Burapha Head Office, Vientiane Capital. The working days is from Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
Job Overview
Burapha’s Land Officers are responsible for negotiating new contracts for land for the expansion of the company’s forestry plantations, they are also responsible for handling any issues that may arise with the company’s existing land contracts. This role requires Land Officers to spend significant time in the field developing good relationships with villagers and government officials alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Present the Burapha Agroforestry models at village meetings and persuade farmers to participate.
- Coordinate with government land and forestry authorities at all levels
- Leading surveys of degraded forest land as part of Burapha's initiative to plant industrial tree species in the Production Forest Areas working closely with the Department of Forestry and the Lao National Front
- Negotiate access road agreements
- Carry out land surveys and collect data using GPS, drone and mobile data collection tools
- Submit regular reports on all field work activities
- Create budgets for field work activities and maintain complete records of all field work expenditure
- Review land use documents to ensure validity
- Draft official documents such as meeting notices and proposals
- Use GIS software to maintain land maps and plans
- Keep up to date all document records using Burapha paper and electronic filing systems
Qualifications / Experience:
- Degree level education in GIS, Geomatics, Geography or closely related field
- Valid driver’s license
- English and Lao language skills
- Experience of Field Survey and Data Collection
- Experience of GIS software
- Experience working with government officials
- Leadership skills
- Ability to negotiate and influence people
- High level of attention to detail
- Ability to solve problems
