Our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation in Laos are both delivering strong production and cost performances and are targeted to reach peak production over the next few years. In addition, the PanAust Group is progressing well in its Stage 1 Feasibility Study of the newly acquired Frieda River Copper Project in PNG

Site-based employees work a roster of 20 days on, 8 days off or 14 days on, 7 days off for shift work, while Vientiane – based employees work 5 days per week with 2 days off.
Reporting to Geotechnical Engineer, the Core Logging Geologist plays a key role in delivering quality geotechnical data across all drilling campaigns. The position leads a team of Core Loggers and works closely with Geotechnical and Design Engineers to ensure all data is accurate, peer-reviewed, and aligned with site-specific practices. Additionally, the role contributes to QAQC processes, supports geotechnical modeling, and ensures all work is conducted in line with Phu Bia Mining’s standards and safety practices.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Train and lead the Core Loggers to standardize logging and sampling practices in line with the guidelines set by PBM Mine Technical Services (MTS) and/or Geotech Design team.
- Perform quality and timely core and ATV logging and sampling works using the updated PBM Geotechnical Data Collection systems in place
- Lead the presentations of daily logging and sampling updates from drilling campaigns to the Geotech and Hydro Superintendent and MTS, Tailings and Geotechnical Manager.
- Head the validation of detailed geotechnical data from peers and subordinates through regular rig visits and ensure quality data is maintained and controlled prior to import in the geotechnical AcQuire Database.
- Conduct overall QAQC of all logging and sampling works upon drill hole completion.
- Lead the coordination with the Geotech Projects team to ensure appropriate delivery of ATV pre-processed data and sampling preparation plans.
- Lead the coordination with the Geotech Database team to ensure accurate logging information and sampling arrangements are being imported into the database and tested to internal/external laboratories, respectively.
- Coordinate with the PBM Geology Team to ensure all geotechnical and geological logging and sampling requirements are considered.
- Provide insights and recommendations to the Geotechnical Engineer on how to further improve the timely delivery and quality of drilling-related deliverables.
- Perform occasional geotechnical mapping during periods of low drilling demands or as deemed necessary by the Geotech Design team.
- Support in updating geotechnical models (i.e., structural, rock mass classification, fault characterization) based on the findings from various drilling campaigns and liase with the Geotechnical Design Engineer for the reconciliation of drill hole data against structural mapping information.
- Undertake various administrative tasks related to the Geotechnical Logging and Sampling team.
- Proactive identification of geotechnical risks through field inspections, review of the quarterly and annual mining forecasts, and updates of the geotechnical risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance to PBM Ground Control Management Plan, PBM Ground Control Standard, and general PBM safety management systems.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in core logging, geotechnical data collection, or similar roles.
- Strong skills in geotechnical logging and data validation.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with data management systems such as AcQuire.
- Ability to lead a team and communicate effectively with internal departments.
- Good understanding of QA/QC processes and safety standards in a mining environment.
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
- Proactive and detail-oriented mindset with a strong sense of responsibility.
