IT Network Infrastructure Engineer

This is an exciting time to join PanAust and our subsidiary company, Phu Bia Mining in Laos. Our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation in Laos are both delivering strong production and cost performances and are targeted to reach peak production over the next few years. In addition, the PanAust Group is progressing well in its Stage 1 Feasibility Study of the newly acquired Frieda River Copper Project in PNG.

Reporting to the IT Network Infrastructure Supervisor, the key objectives of the role are to maintain and support the IT infrastructure in support of the business, including installation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair. The role will also participate in the delivery of IT business improvement and project activities and implementing the groups IT strategy.

 

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

 

  1. Field Service Supports:
  • Support all Structured Cabling (Fibre and Copper) across the sites 
  • Support mining monitoring system (Radar connection, pit slope monitoring, fatigue management. etc)
  • Coordinate with telephone company for any mobile signal coverage issue or improvement
  1. Network Implementation:
  • Implement, and maintain LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VPN infrastructures in Laos and oversea.
  • Plan and deploy network hardware (routers, switches, wireless access points).
  • Ensure high availability and scalability of network services.
  1. Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and usage using monitoring platforms.
  • Identify and resolve network issues, including latency, bottlenecks, and outages.
  1. Security and Compliance:
  • Implement and manage network security measures (e.g., Firewalls, ACLs, VLANs).
  • Work with Cyber security team to ensure compliance with data protection standards.
  • Maintain and update documentation for network security policies.
  1. Maintenance and Upgrades:
  • Regularly update network devices (Cisco) with firmware and software patches.
  • Replace outdated hardware and optimize network components.
  • Perform backup and recovery of network configurations.
  1. Collaboration and Support:
  • Work with IT service delivery teams to resolve escalated network issues.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers.
  • Assist with Network Architect planning and project execution.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain up-to-date network diagrams and configuration records.
  • Generate reports on network performance, incidents, and capacity planning.

 

To be successful in this role:

 

Essential Skills

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in designing, implementing, and managing IT network infrastructure environments
  • Experience supporting complex IT network environments, including LAN, WAN, firewalls, and basic SD-WAN
  • Strong problem-solving, multi tasks management, and organizational skills
  • Experience managing DNS and DHCP
  • Experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining networking hardware (Cisco preferred)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in both English and Lao
  • Strong customer service orientation and coordination skills
  • A valid light vehicle (LV) driver’s license is required

Additional Skills

 

  • Skills in fibre optic connectivity and splicing
  • Experience with network monitoring tools
  • Experience with Virtualisation, Microsoft Windows Server, Windows File Sharing, Azure, Office 365, Cloud Storage, and OneDrive
