This is an exciting time to join PanAust and our subsidiary company, Phu Bia Mining in Laos. Our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation in Laos are both delivering strong production and cost performances and are targeted to reach peak production over the next few years. In addition, the PanAust Group is progressing well in its Stage 1 Feasibility Study of the newly acquired Frieda River Copper Project in PNG

Our modern mine camps provide great Lao, Asian and Western food, sport and recreational facilities and housekeeping services. Site-based employees work a roster of 20 days on, 8 days off or 14 days on, 7 days off for shift work, while Vientiane – based employees work 5 days per week with 2 days off.
Reporting to the Senior Drill and Blasting Engineer, you will focus on the provision of delivering an excellent mine planning service which includes ore and waste movement schedules, equipment utilization and production performance analysis, and drill and blasting activities. Provide standard blast design, blast reconciliation and blast master effectively.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Produce, review, daily and weekly drill and blast schedules or plans
- Support approved blast designs to ensure comply with drill and blast process, safety standards, always meet productivity and good efficiency.
- Good experience in drill and blast engineering, optimizing fragmentation to meet mining and processing requirement, minimize ore dilution, blast performance reconciliation and blast improvement to deliver high quality blast outcomes of wall control at final/interim wall and productivity.
- Providing supporting data for blast master to support pit operation and 3 months forecast in timely manner.
- Providing the drill and blast reports for daily, weekly and monthly as require.
- Closely review and monitor drill and blast cost to comply with drill and blast budgets.
- Contractor management for explosive stocks and control, QAQC compliance.
- Maintain and improve PBM drill and blast process as require
- Undertake Drill and blast related project studies and investigation
- Maintain closely relationship with the Geotechnical Engineer in order to optimize pit wall stability, develop a good relationship with mine planning, mine operation, geology and other departments.
- All other duties assigned by the Employee’s supervisor appointed by the company
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Degree in Mine Engineering or related fields
- Minimum 1 year experience in mining industry as a Drill and Blast Engineer is desirable
- Good verbal and written communication skills both in English and Lao language
- Competency in Microsoft Office, GEOVIA Surpac, JKSimBlast (2DBench), Blastware, Split Desktop analysis and other blasting software relevant
- Strong motivation to work and ability to adapt to a challenging work environment
