Provincial Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Coordinator

Humanity and Inclusion Humanity and Inclusion (HI) has been active in Lao P.D.R. since 1996. The organization’s vision is of a Lao society where all adults and children live as equal individuals in a safe environment.  HI is currently seeking a qualified and motivated person to work in the position of Provincial Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Coordinator for  USAID Learn to Read project.

The main goal for USAID Learn to Read to improve the reading skills of all children in pre-primary level through to Grade 2 with a particular focus on non-Lao speaking children and children with disabilities. There are three organisations working in partnership on this project which is funded by USAID. Save the Children is the lead partner and implementer in two provinces Xiengkhuang and Vientiane Province with Room to Read implementing in Champasak and Attapeu provinces. HI will provide technical input on gender equality, social inclusion and inclusive education to the two implementing partners.

Position type: Full Time.

Duration: one year with possibility of extention.

Base location: Champasak Province (based at Room to Read Office in Champasak). 

Overview of the position

The Provincial GESI Coordinator will support the USAID Learn to Read (the Activity) implementing partner, Room to Read (RtR) in the South (Champasak and Attapue provinces) in the overall implementation of the Activity’s Gender and Integration Development Action Plan (GIDAP) which is led by Humanity & Inclusion (HI) for the Activity. The Provincial GESI Coordinator will receive technical guidance from the GESI Specialist employed by HI to enable integration of GESI within all the activities undertaken in the target schools and communities and support the Activity’s teams in the north and the south to ensure the principles of inclusion are adhered to. 

Main responsibilities and activities:

  • Support GESI Specialist to provide technical guidance to ensure that at the provincial level, the Activity reflects gender equality and social inclusion (including disability and ethnicity) in its’ practices..
  • Support the implementation of the Activity’s GIDAPand provide technical advice or training, as needed.
  • Support the coordination of GESI-related data collection and analysis.
  • Contribute to written project performance reports for effective monitoring and evaluation of GESI integration activities and monthly budget follow-up 

Desired qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in education or gender related field.
  • Excellent Lao and English skills (speaking, reading and writing)
  • Minimum three years’ work experience in education projects with a focus on GESI or minimum three years’ work experience in gender related projects with a focus on education.
  • Minimum one years’ experience in contributing to developing, designing teaching, learning materials, curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Experience of designing and implementing activities related to gender equality and social inclusion in education would be an advantage
  • Successful track record of working with organizations led by or representing women, children with disabilities, non-Lao speaking children, or other ethnic groups
  • Prior experience with advocacy campaigns and policy reform initiatives around GESI

HI offers approximate net salary LAK 7,236,000 - LAK 7.892.000 + 10% relocation + benefits (13th month, insurances, SSO, etc.).
