Job Description for:  Research physician

Full time post: 20 months (full time)

Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital-Wellcome Trust-Research Unit (LOMWRU) is a Lao-UK project conducting infectious disease research in Laos and global medicine quality research since 2000.The office is based in the Microbiology Laboratory, Mahosot Hospital, Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR.

We are looking for Research physicians to work on the South and Southeast Asian Community-Based Trials Network  project. This multicentre studyis a flagship project of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit, in Bangkok, which aims to assess the burden and etiologies of febrile illnesses in three Southeast Asian countries. The post will be based in Savannakhet province.

Taks:

• To assist in training health staff on conducting study per protocol
• To monitor, supervise, and support health staff on daily basis
• To ensure that health staff collecting, keeping, sending the data  per protocol
• To ensure that study is conducted in line with Lao ethical standards
• To ensure that all documents and devices are kept securely and safe
• To liaise with provincial health staff and LOMWRU staff for any work related to study.
• To assist in writing monthly reports
• To conduct other study-related work as requested by study cooodinator/LOMWRU director

Essential Criteria

• Medically qualified
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Lao
• Good written and verbal communication in English
• Enthusiastic, organized and with good problem solving skills
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word etc.)

Desirable Criteria

• Experience in related field work
• Experience in health research and/or verbal autopsy
• Masters degree in Tropical Medicine and International Health
• Experience in Social Science / Qualitative research methods
