Basic Education Quality and Access in Lao PDR
Illustrator (freelance consultant)
The Basic Education Quality and Access in Lao PDR (BEQUAL) program directly supports the Ministry of Education and Sports and is working in the most educationally disadvantaged districts, to increase participation of disadvantaged children, improve learning environments and teacher quality. Since 2018, BEQUAL’s key activities have focussed on assisting the MoES with the revision and implementation of the national curriculum for grades 1-5 in all 18 provinces. This includes the development of an aligned preservice primary curriculum, teacher development and intensified support in 32 target districts with a focus on improving learning outcomes for girls and boys from disadvantaged groups. Phase 2 will commence in September 2020 for a period of two to five years.

The freelance illustrator will work closely with the Research Institute for Educational Science (RIES) primary curriculum writing team for English Language – providing the illustrations required to support primary school students’ understanding of the material. The Illustrator will develop a set of characters that will be repeated throughout the textbook in different contexts, scenes and activities.
