Chief Communications OfficerJOB VACANCYChief Communications Officer (Re-advertisement) As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. On behalf of the German Government, GIZ currently is implementing a large number of projects in Lao PDR in two priority areas: rural development and sustainable economic development. GIZ Office Vientiane supports all GIZ Projects in finance and administration and currently is seeking for a qualified and experienced Laotian candidate for the position of Chief Communications Officer. Starting Date: As soon as possible Duration of Assignment: 02 years with possibility of extension Work Locations: Vientiane Capital ResponsibilitiesThe Chief Communications Officer is responsible for: implementing standards and guidelines for GIZ Laos communication work designing the strategic orientation of communication in the country, in presenting a consistent corporate image and communicating GIZ corporate policy and strategy to staff in the country advising projects in the country and local communication experts on their communication work (e.g. corporate design, press work, social media) responsible for the relationship with the Lao press and Lao mass media assuring the quality of articles from projects or programmes (e.g. for all kind of channels: publications, press releases, social media, the internet etc.) cooperating and participating in the corporate communication network, e.g. participating in regional communication workshops organised by corporate communication cooperating with GIZ’s Corporate Communications Unit, managing the exchange of information on communication (among other things by contributing themes, trends, supplying texts for internal media) manages the existing social media channels of GIZ Laos, such as Facebook developing and maintaining checklists and templates to be in line with the corporate design organising regular PR Focal Points Meeting to coordinate activities and inform PR Focal Points about new guidelines and developments Organising PR events presenting GIZ Lao portfolio and its result of work Main tasks: The Chief Communications Officer is responsible for: coordinates media activities in the country (possibly also project/ programme activities) establishes and maintains contact with national media, in particular setting up and running a national media distributor creates and updates a national media file writes and sends out press releases compiles information materials for the media (basic material and for specific occasions) and distributes these systematically in line with the target group’s needs monitors the media (documentation and analysis of media reports on GIZ Laos and German development cooperation) designs suitable communication instruments for PR (e.g. country brochures, fact sheets, advertising material, information sheets for the country portfolio) manages the necessary coordination processes and the production of publications and materials in accordance with GIZ standards (corporate design, standards for content) organises PR events provides editorial support to the GIZ Laos website, coordinates and advises on the online presentations of projects and programmes develops and supports appropriate communication instruments where necessary (e.g. internal newsletter, internal events) consults with the Corporate Communications Unit for communication work within GIZ to be in line with the standards and guidelines advises GIZ-staff on the regulations and contacts for PR in the interests of a uniform GIZ image is responsible for online media use screen English newspapers, copy and file the articles related to the German Cooperation activities (Monthly Press Review). Required qualifications, competences and experience University degree or comparable training excellent verbal and written English skills at least 3 years’ professional experience in the field of communication (media and PR work, journalism, internal communications or lobbying or similar) ability to express oneself well both verbally and in writing; polished, target-group oriented style experience with media productions knowledge of graphics applications experience in project and/or event management editorial experience, experience in writing articles and press releases (evidenced e.g. by work samples) very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office) willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management GIZ is an equal opportunity employer.
