The project aims to contribute to strengthening value chains on natural ingredients for domestic, regional and international pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics markets. This trade shall increase the livelihood benefits of rural population, taking into consideration all relevant ethical BioTrade principles and criteria. The Project Officer will be based in Vientiane with frequent travels to provinces, and occasionally to our partner programmes in Vietnam and Myanmar. We offer a flexible, dynamic and international working environment, which values innovation, initiative and learning.LocationVientiane, with regular travel to the field and in the region.Duration of contract 3 years (until August 2020)Date of entryMay – early June 2017Tasks Elaborate economically, ecologically and socially sustainable business models, following principles of BioTrade in consultation with our partners from businesses, producer or collector groups, government and associations Define intervention strategies necessary to achieve the envisaged business models, and help the partners prepare business cases or plans which will form the basis of cooperation with the project. Facilitate market actors to develop export-oriented value chains. Link market actors, arrange or provide capacity development or support in other necessary manners, following your intervention strategies. Lead and/or accompany and monitor closely the implementation of the interventions Collect and document information, knowledge, learning relevant for the improvement of the intervention strategy Identify, initiate and build up relationships with relevant actors (government agencies, private sector, farmer groups, other partners) Support dialogue at local and national level of policy makers and companies and other stakeholders. Regularly update the project manager and project partners on the progress of implementation of project activities In close collaboration with the National Project Manager, prepare and implement workplans and reporting. Contribute to the development of publications, learning material, documentaries etc. Actively share learning within your national and regional teams as well as other interested groups, internally and externally. Perform other tasks as requested by the National Project ManagerProfile/Qualification Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, or related At least 5 years of experience in private sector development, business consulting or working with an (export-oriented) private sector business. Good understanding of the business world Willingness to work in remote, rural environments, and closely with farmer and farmer groups Ability to speak credibly and appropriately to farmers and to sophisticated businesses. Experience with natural ingredients is highly advantageous. Experience working on gender and social equity issues is advantageous Ability to conduct research and analysis, as well as to design and lead interventions.
