Its mission is to strengthen local capacities to fight the infectious diseases that affect vulnerable populations in developing countries, particularly mothers and children.Present in 20 countries in West Africa, in Latin America, in Asia and in the Middle East, the Mérieux Foundation focuses on 4 objectives:Increasing vulnerable populations’ access to diagnostics by strengthening clinical laboratories in national healthcare systemsEnhancing local applied research capabilities by training researchers, developing collaborative programs and creating Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratories, transferred to local partnersEncouraging knowledge-sharing and public health initiatives leveraging Les Pensières Center for Global HealthImproving conditions for mothers and children taking a global health approach. The Mérieux Foundation has been working in Laos since December 2006, date of the signing of the first partnership agreement with the Ministry of Health for the construction of the Christophe Mérieux Infectiology Center in Laos (CILM). It was inaugurated in 2009 as a place for scientific exchange and knowledge sharing. This Centre is now integrated within the public health structure of Laos, under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. The Mérieux Foundation continues to provide support for the development of CICML's scientific and medical activities. The centre is devoted to infectious diseases testing and research as well as a knowledge sharing though its fully equipped conference room. The centre includes a BSL2+ laboratory, a conference room and a research unit. The Mérieux Foundation was responsible for the Laboratory’s construction, the installation of equipment and training of personnel.The support of the Mérieux Foundation also resulted in the management of the construction and equipment of a laboratory specialized in food quality control, attached to the CICML, and funded by a Mérieux company (Mérieux Nutrisciences).The Merieux Foundation has developed a strong collaboration with the National Center for Laboratory and Epidemiology to develop a National training Plan for Laboratory professional and to implement trainings. The collaboration also includes the involvement of NCLE in all the provincial trainings performed by Merieux Foundation. Objective of the job : To support the microbiology diagnostics activities in public clinical labs in Lao PDR. Main Responsibilities: Train and coach laboratory staffHe/she will be in charge of coaching public clinical laboratories in the project sitesHe/she will be in charge of the bench training and laboratory capacity building of laboratory staffHe/she will train the laboratory staff on pathogen identification, AST procedures and antibiotic resistance mechanisms in each siteHe/she will be in charge of developing SOP for the laboratoryHe/she will train the laboratory staff on lab management, biosafety & biosecurity, quality insurance and Data managementGeneral organization of the projectHe/she will work in close collaboration with the Head of Project, the Regional Coordinator and Fondation Mérieux Head QuarterHe/she will respond to the project requirement and the Foundation Mérieux diligenceHe/she will develop and translate laboratory protocolsHe/she will travel across the country frequently, 2 or 3 weeks per monthHe/she will work in close collaboration with the national reference laboratory and the Ministry of HealthProfile and qualification required:Initial Background : laboratory professionalSpecialization : microbiology is an assetExperience in the position : ideally 3-5 year-experience in a microbiology laboratory.
