  • Female Junior Program Officer Job AnnouncementThe Swiss Cooperation Office in Vientiane designs and steers the Government of Switzerland’s bilateral development programme in Lao PDR. We support the Lao Government in reducing poverty and in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) gives priority to sustainable and equitable development, especially in rural areas with minorities, to governance reforms favouring the poor and disadvantaged, to gender equity, and to social justice. We are a Swiss-Lao team of highly motivated professionals looking for a dynamic Lao National to work with SDC projects in Vientiane Capital or provinces, to fill the position of:Female Junior Program Officer belonging to an ethnic minority (JPO) for a two years duration (2019-2020)According to SDC Mekong Strategic Plan 2018-2021, SDC is currently supporting three portfolios in the field of governance and citizen participation; agriculture and food security; and skills development and employment, including the crosscutting theme for Gender Equality and Ethnic Diversity that is mainstreamed in all three portfolios in contributing to the poverty reduction in Lao PDR. We are looking for two Junior Program Officers (JPOs) who have graduated from bachelor degree or diploma or who have certifications from technical/vocational schools to work with SDC project partners. The key objective is to provide them an opportunity to gain working experience within international development cooperation. This experience should help to find a job outside SDC after termination of the 2 years contract. In collaboration with SDC project partners, the JPO will be assigned to work with international and national staffs and involved in the identification, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the SDC supported programs/projects. The specific roles and responsibilities may wary depending on the specific projects, which are related to (1) skills development and (2) nutrition.Is this an interesting challenge for you?  Do you have:a degree or certificate in agriculture, environment, economics, international relations, tourisms, nutrition, education, health, public or business administration or related discipline;Willingness and interest to work in the field;Good self-management skills, flexibility and resilience to work under pressure;Ability to ensure good communication and flow of information;Basic English language skills, both verbal and written;A strong commitment to development; an interest in adapting to varied physical and professional environments; and a desire to work with people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds;Basic social skills and willingness to work in a team;Internet proficiency as well as proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); andExperience in volunteering a strong asset.SDC is a value based equal opportunities employer, appointing on merits by open competition.
