  • Communications and Design Specialist (re-advertise) VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR LAO NATIONALS ONLY (RE-ADVERTISEMENT) Position: 01 (one) Communications and Design SpecialistName of Project:Sustainable Forest and Land Management in the Dry Dipterocarp Forest Ecosystems of Southern Lao PDR (SAFE Ecosystems Project)Location:     Project Management Office, located at the Department of Forestry, MAF, Thatdam Campus, Chanthabouly District, Vientiane Capital, Lao P.D.RLevel of Post:Senior ProfessionalType of Contract: Service ContractStarting Date: As soon as possibleDuration:12 months renewableGeneral Background: The Dry Dipterocarp Forest (DDF) ecosystems located in Savannakhet Province are recognized as being globally important (as part of the Central Indochina Dry Forests ecoregion identified in Global 200 WWF Ecoregions and as habitat for a number of globally significant and threatened species) and nationally important for their provision of numerous ecosystem services (water supply; sustainable timber and Non-Timber Forests Products; carbon sequestration; etc.) that benefit the people of Lao PDR.  In recent decades, DDF ecosystems and the species within them have come under increasing threat from large-scale conversion of forest, degradation of forest ecosystem services, and species loss. In Laos, which retains a large proportion of the remaining Dry Dipterocarp Forests in the region, the demand for cash-crops is propelling forest conversion, while unsustainable logging, over hunting, over harvesting of non-timber forest products and burning to provide fresh growth for livestock are all leading to habitat degradation. To meet the current project implementation requirements, the project is seeking to hire 01 (one) Communications and Design Specialist:Duties and responsibilities:The Communications and Design Specialist will work directly with the Project Team at DOF, including the Assistant Project Manager, the UNDP Technical Specialist, the UNDP M&E Officer, as well as DOF staff at the national, provincial and district levels. He/she will be closely guided by the Assistant Project Manager and play a key role in developing project communication materials and ecotourism promotion strategies both nationally and internationally. This will include the development, design and dissemination of different types of communication documents and project promotional materials though various types of communication mediums for a broad and diverse target audience.Experiences and Qualification: Masters’ degree or Bachelors’ degree with at least 3 years’ experience in Communications, Digital Graphic-Design, and/or a relevant field of studies.A minimum of 1-year practical experience with a Masters’ degree or 3-years’ experience with a Bachelors’ in graphic design, project communications and promotion.Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design, including the use of design software.Shows a clear and mature style of design, demonstrating an understanding of the communication requirements of UNDP and the SAFE Ecosystems Project.Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed products with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and colour management.Experience in designing charts, infographics, and maps.Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms.Ability and willing to travel within and outside Vientiane Capital.Willingness to work in a multi-cultural and ethnically diverse environment.Excellent computer skills, including full working knowledge of standard.Requirements for applications submission:Interested candidates should submit a cover letter expression your interest and why you are qualified for the Communications and Design Specialist including update CV and provide at least three referee names and contact addresses to safeecosystems.humanresource@gmail.com by 25th January 2021, at 5:00 pm.
